Examine and Compare CLEAR Language Arts Units for ways to connect with Math content.
2. Example: 8th Grade CLEAR Unit 2 Language Arts concerns Short Stories. Earlier CLEAR Language Arts Units taught the very types of instructional strategies that Marzano requires of math.
3. Help students see the number patterns in that unit: fractional presence, percentages of the story that involve this, operations as metaphors in the story, functional relationships et al.
4. Work with a Language Arts teacher to help your students make meaning across the disciplines.
5. Involve student interests to motivate them: e.g. movies above represent some of their favorite films. These are used to help them find 1) the glory in their story, and 2) number patterns in that story. Example: these films represent the interests of Language Arts Students in an 8th Grade English Class. This gives them voice as they learn.
